Top ten Tuesday #9: books that surprised you

Top ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by thatartsyreadergirl

This week’s topic is books that surprised you in a good or bad way

1. Thirteen reasons why

This book really made me think. I could really relate to Hannah because I was bullied a lot and was in the same place mentally as Hannah when I read this book

2. Gabi a girl in pieces

I was surprised by this book because the author was able to make the character realistic and funny even though she had a hard life

3. Burned

I was surprised how this book affected me because it was so realistic and portrayed the main characters feelings very well

4. Crank

This book impacted me because it taught me how drugs can affect people anf families

I was surprised by this book because I had no idea that the main character in this book would have dissociative identity disorder

The mystery of this series was intriguing I was shocked when I found out that one of the characters had dissociative identity disorder

I know i don’t have ten but these are the books that surprised me the most

What books have you guys been surprised by? Let me know in the comments below:)

  1. I have a sort of love/hate relationship with Thirteen Reasons Why. As someone who struggles with low self-esteem, there were parts of the book I found unrealistic, BUT I very much appreciate that it engages young readers in discussions about important, sensitive issues. I’m glad to hear you were able to connect with it too. Crank was amazing–I was also surprised by how much I loved it. I ended up doing a video presentation on it for my Young Adult literature class.

      1. I have. I think it was pretty well done, although the graphic content made me squirm for personal reasons. I remind myself (and others) that the show is not the book. There’s a lot in the show that’s different from the book, particularly that we see into the lives of those aside from Hannah and Clay.
